Museums, youth hostels and spectacular movie sets
Our facility managers take care of many special tasks like the attractive design and maintenance of our castles, palaces and gardens.

Our facility managers supervise construction work, monitor the functionality of our facilities, and ensure health and safety and fire protection. And as all castles and palaces have their own history, they all have specific requirements.

Bringing history to life
As the Technical Director of Colditz Castle and the Team Leader at Mildenstein, Rochlitz and Gnandstein Castle, civil engineer Michael Heiser was tasked with uncovering an escape tunnel at Colditz Castle. He managed to bring to life a piece of history from the Second World War: With its high walls, the castle served as an internment camp for officers of the Western Allies. The tunnel was created by British prisoners and is now taught in English schools. Heiser worked with English speleologists to reconstruct the tunnel. The historic Renaissance castle now houses a youth hostel and the Saxon State Music Academy.

Job Profile – Facility Manager:
Consultation and information exchange. Michael Heiser and his four colleagues now work in our Facility Management, IT and Real Estate Department at the organization’s headquarters in Dresden. He’s responsible for our technical facilities and utility rooms. He also supports and consults the technical directors of our castles, palaces and gardens on matters concerning operational management, occupational safety and fire protection.
